    Description

Please note the 1st picture does NOT accurately show the correct coloring of this piece. The first picture was the only picture I used a flash to try show more of the open work, & detail lost without the flash. The other 11 pictures are more accurate to the true green hue of this beautiful piece. This piece has been in our family since the late 1950s. My father owned a custom tailor (suit) business in Hong Kong & exported to the the U.S. This piece was bought by him second hand & shipped back to the U.S. like SO many others. It stands 16 3/4 inches high on the stand. Without the stand it is 15 1/2 inches tall. At the widest point it is 9 1/2 inches across, & 5 3/4 inches deep across the incense bowl. It weighs in at 6 pounds 12 ounces with out the wooden stand. I don't know exactly what it was carved out of, my dad always told me it was jade. But from my experience I would lean towards jadeite, or serpentine. There are 31 free floating carved out rings. One ring is missing, but the "ring holder" is intact. The burner is actually made out of 8 separate pieces. These pieces will only fit together 1 way. Each piece has been carved to turn & lock into place with a notch. It has since been epoxied together with Gorrilla Glue when we inherited the piece. The system worked well but it was far from perfect. The piece has EXTREMELY minimal loss (maybe a tiny chip here or there), & I only noted 1 possible repair. There are many areas of open work throughout the burner. 2 dragon heads have been carved on opposing sides of the Incense bowl. It comes complete with it's original finely carved wood stand. There are really to many details to list, please see pictures. One thing I did notice, that I never realized in the half a century I have been around this piece. It is not perfectly symmetrical with the carving or open work. I also observed high & low spots that I never noticed until looking at it thru a camera lens! So if you must have perfect symmetry in your hand carved art, this piece is not for you! Please see pictures for more details. Also we will be listing a dozen or so Asian Antiques over the next few weekends as seen in the background.... As time permits. We only accept returns if the item is misrepresented by the seller ( me).
